The district of Pinchinats

Rural as it has always been, the district of  Pinchinats is located to the northeast of the city of Aix-en-Provence. It has obtained its rather pretty and unusual name of the Provençal "penchinats" symbolizing the combing workshops that had been created in the Middle Ages. The latter mainly encouraged the use of pure water and in abundance for the realization of their works ...

This is not surprising if you consider the district of  Pinchinats as the most pleasant place to stay in Aix-en-Provence for a cool summer break. The village is renowned for housing the most beautiful bourgeois villas following the example of the castle of La Mignarde, a tourist place rich in history.

The district of  Pinchinats has always been a remarkable gold reserve supplying the whole city of Aix-en-Provence. At that time, an average of 30 liters per second could be harvested, feeding 8 mills and watering a few gardens before venturing into the Arc.

The village offers architectural buildings with seductive charms such as the Church of the Pinchinats, a beautiful construction in the shape of Roman cross in Latin style. Château de la Mignarde, built on the Pinchinats road, was built in the 1670s and is listed as a historic monument.

When you are passing through the Pinchinats district, do not hesitate to go to the Pavillon de la Gaude, a historic symbol of Aachen which is one of the historical monuments of the world. The latter belonged to the Bishop of Vence and was built in 1784.

The village of Pinchinats is among others recognized for the high quality of its nature sheltering an exceptional fauna and flora. In 1845, Professor M. Boyer observed the presence of several types of agabus, which draw their resources from Pinchinate waters. These include agabus biguttatus, agabus didymus and agabus bruneus.
